Christoph Lieben-Seutter has been General & Artistic Director of the Elbphilharmonie and the Laeiszhalle in Hamburg since 2007. Under his leadership, the Elbphilharmonie has become one of the world’s leading concert halls. With his visionary approach to programming he attracts a broad audience, creating a link between classical music and other genres. He used the ten-year waiting period until the inauguration of the Elbphilharmonie in 2017 in a variety of ways. He provided significant input during its creation, consolidated the profile of the Laeiszhalle with its own events, substantially contributed to a consensual collaboration between the local event organisers, and by launching the ‘Elbphilharmonie Concerts’ at many venues in the city firmly established the markedly diverse programmatic approach of the Elbphilharmonie.
